I got caught smoking pot at work not too long ago.
Actually I was live on the air at the time, working the graveyard shift for a local station.
I firmly maintain that it is not my fault. I even tried to get a lawyer to firmly represent myself and others in a wrongful termination suit, but none of them were very interested. If you look at it from my point of view it was just a dumb mistake, but not giant enough to warrant myself and others getting fired. The night that is in question all of us were in the middle of a 24 hour long “dazed and confused” marathon on tv, playing a lot of tunes from the 60s and 70s about getting high. Since all of us were highlighting tunes about cannabis, I didn’t think it would be a make or break deal for myself and others to legitimately get high on the air. If anything, inhaling cannabis should have added to the authenticity of the tunes! It’s not like I even broke the law, because of course I have a prescription for medical cannabis that I get filled at the dispensary every single week. Even though it wasn’t illegal it was a violation of supplier policy. Specifically, the problem was that I smoked cannabis in the facility, because all the beatbox DJs smoke cannabis each day at home, and the bosses understand this… But when I brought cannabis into the corporation to smoke, that was a horrible rule violation that could not be overlooked, so they fired me the next afternoon. If I had it to do over again, I would have made a better choice, but for now all I can do is look for another task that is cooler about on-site cannabis use.
