For twenty years I was a college teacher who specialized in movie studies.
- I retired from that to become an author, & have written a series of books examining the history of odd sub-genres of movie.
I may be outdated & salty, although I still cherish what I do. Sometimes I get bored, which is how I managed to beginning a Movie Night at the local cannabis dispensary. I was in the store one afternoon, buying my weekly allotment of marijuana, & struck up a conversation with the store manager. He was looking for ways to bring current people into the smokers lounge, & I recommended a weekly movie evening focusing on the wonderful cannabis movies of all time. My associate and I don’t see a lot of cannabis comedies any more, but there is a 50 year history of movies that celebrate the hemp plant & its ability to make people laugh. Of course my associate and I all know about the wonderful ones, like the series of movies by Cheech & Chong that celebrate the ludicrous nature of cannabis smokers. In Up in Smoke they drive a panel fan that is built out of solidified cannabis, how deranged is that? My personal favorite marijuana-influenced movie of all time is Dazed & Confused, because it shows how real people used cannabis to socialize & relieve stress. There are also more ribald cannabis comedies, like Grandmother’s Boy & Half Baked, which are more crude & vulgar but also quite funny. If you live in the area, come on down to the cannabis dispensary on Monday evening for the next movie screening.
